Help with a word problem?
During rush hour, Fernando can drive 40 miles using the side roads in the same time that it takes to travel 30 miles on the freeway. If Fernando's rate on the side roads is 7mi/h faster than his rate on the freeway, find his rate on the side roads.

I know that you can set the problem up like this

(40/(x+7)=30/x

rate on the side roads is x + 7

rate on the freeway is x

40/(x+7) = 30/x

multiply both sides by x

40x / (x+7) = 30

multiply both sides by (x+7)

40x = 30 (x+7)

then solve for x

Heh - he's not going real fast at all ... what kind of POS is he driving? :-)
