We originally thought about naming her Haley Christina, but then my husband confessed that he didnt really like the name Haley and wanted to go with a name that we had chosen earlier. So now we're on Makenzi Leigh. With our last name Buratti, I think it sounds cute all together, but my mother in law said she didnt like the name Makenzi. What do you think?

Makenzi Leigh Buratti has a very nice ring to it. Tell mother in law thanks for her opinion and write it on the birth certificate. You'll be glad you did if that's the one you and your husband like. But be patient with Makenzi trying to learn to spell it. ; ) Good luck.

That's a really dumb spelling of a common, over-used name. Take it from someone who's parents tried to be cute and 27 years later I have a stupid name... and don't try to be original on the spelling it only makes it lame. With a "z" is dumb.

Also I worked at an airline reservation center for a few years and saw some really dumb names. This would be just another queer spelling of a name that everyone will spell wrong for the rest of the child's life.

I think that it's a pretty name and I also say that only you and your husband made this little girl, so your opinions are the only ones that matter on a name. I'm going through the same thing with my mother in law right now. We're due in May and naming our daughter Scarlett Renee, and my mother in law is making it perfectly clear that she HATES the name. She says its pretentious. Look at it the way we're looking at it. We love this name and that's what matters. She named her own children, so name your own and don't let anyone pressure you into changing her name.

I do like Makenzi, although would stick to the original spelling as your daughter will spend her whole life saying "it's spelt with an i at the end and no c in the middle".

I think that as I grew up in Scotland I will always see Mackenzie as a surname, but at least it's a nice one, please reconsider the spelling, no one will think "oh that's different" as it will just sound like Mackenzie anyway.

Mother in laws...

Honestly, I'm getting mad for you right now! It's taking me back to when we were visiting my mother in law and she was telling me what I should name our child. Ergh.

It's your baby don't mind her. I think Makenzi is a great name! It's our neighbor's daughter's name. She's a sweetie!!

I love the name Mackenzi. It's not your mother-in-law's baby, it's yours. You could also wait until you have your daughter. A name might just come to you when you take a look at that precious face for the first time as well.

I like the name, but you might consider a more traditional spelling. Mackenzie? Mackenzie? When I names my son, I thought "how will this look on a college application? a resume? a presidential ballot...?" I know, I know, it was thinking FAR ahead. I skipped out on the name Jackson (which I liked) because our last name is Swanson... And decided against Jacque and went with "Jack"... hope you're not offended, but you asked =)

I like Makenna better than Makenzi. It's a little more feminine.
