I always read or listen to a book until I fall asleep. If you get a nice boring one, it works faster. If you get an exciting one, you may stay up all night, though. Or you could get a tape of your most boring professor and listen to it until you fall asleep. Or one of those really long boring movies that get half over and you still have no idea what the plot is because the whole movie is about people sitting at tea discussing . . . what were they discussing?(some Brittish romance ones are this way---many are good, but I've seen my fair share of these type). Um. You could always eat a really huge meal, after which there is enough tiredness to fall asleep. I'm sure there are other ideas out there, too.

One method I used during basic training came strait out of my army smart book. Take slow deep breaths and dont think about it. It takes me all of about 3 minutes to fall asleep using this method. If you keep thinking dang I cant sleep. You wont fall asleep. I also sleep better with sound IE tv fans ect

One method is to lie on your back with your arms at your side. Beginning with your feet, imagine the energy flowing out your toes and consciously relax you muscles. Do this gradually from feet to head, relaxing the muscles as you move upward. I sometimes fall asleep before I get to my chest. Another thing I do sometimes is crawl into bed and read a boring book. That usually puts me to sleep within a few minutes.

Lay down make sure you are totally comfortable. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Exhale at the same time start to relax your body starting with your toes, then your feet until you reach your head. Relax each body part with the exhale of each breath. You will usually fall asleep before you reach your upper extremities.

S*x works pretty well if you're a guy.

I also recommend snuggling with someone you love.

If you have small children around they can tire you out pretty good (ironically while you are trying to tire them out!).

Avoid caffeine or any stimulant, sugar, etc. Exercise and get fresh air and sunlight if possible during the day.

You need to see your doc for help if you are not able to fall asleep on your own, it is not something to be ashamed of.

Take a hot bath.....

Drink some warm milk......

Have a small turkey sandwich.....

Do something that requires a lot of repetition..... I used to play Yahtzee and Video Poker. After awhile, the sleep just comes on you!

Don't stimulate yourself. Like before your bed time don't watch T.V. or go on the computer. Don't eat before hand either. If your mind is racing, good luck--I hate that.
