There is an important distinction to make here between micro and macro evolution. Micro evolution is widely accepted even by many evolution opposers' , and is supported by evidence. Lets take moths during the industrial revolution for example. Before, there were about equal populations of black and white moths of the same species. After, pollution collected on trees making them darker the black moths could blend in while the white moths eaten. The color is tied to a gene (or is heritable) so more black moths mated and passed on their genes. Therefore, the total moth population know has a higher number of black moths compared to white ones. I hear "The Beak of the Finch: A Story of Evolution in Our Time" by Jonathan Weiner is a good book outlining micro evolution. Getting into macro evolution you are talking about the evolution of an entirely new species or the evolution of a single cell to a human. This is more controversial. If you would like to know more about some of the evidence for this maybe you could try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evidence_of_evolution
Unfortunately, we can't say for sure at this point. There is no definitive evidence for macro evolution just as there is no definitive evidence that we are aren't all really hooked up to the matrix, but If you do a little research I think you will find it that it makes very good sense. Of course this assumes you have a reasonable mind, but lets not go there.
