I am starting to feed my son solids! And do not want to start with grains- do I feed veggie mash thinned out?

We started solids at 7 1/2 months and we just gave my son cooked cubed sweet potatoes. He just mashed them up in his mouth. If you want to puree it, I would add breastmilk :) Just adds more nutrients. Good job on continuing breastfeeding!!!

At six months, there is really no need to start with rice cereal or any of the other cereals. They're really just empty calories. Because you waited the proper amount of time, you're able to start on sweet potato or any other low-allergenic, easily mashed food (bananas are a great first food, as are avocado and sweet potato).

You can certainly add breastmilk to the mashed food or pureed food. It will give it a great nutritional boost! If you don't have the extra milk on hand, though, it isn't a big deal.

Congratulations on making it to six months of breastfeeding!

I started with rice cereal and then added bananas or applesauce. I would not dilute the sweet potatoes for a 6 month old baby.

I started with baby oatmeal mixed with applesauce. I also did sweet potatoe with a little milk (its not necessary to use breast milk unless you have some extra around.) My kids nursed until they were about 15 months, too.

good luck!

By all means!. I started my daughter on solids at 6 months, and i added breastmilk to practically everything! its definately good for the baby to keep up the intake of breastmilk, and i'm sure we all agree that its much better to use breastmilk than formula, since that's what baby is already used to for the first six months of his/her life!!

All the best..and goodluck

maybe you should discuss this with your pediatrician sometimes 6 months is a little early. if you do choose to feed solids do the same one for several days to make sure there are no allergies.
