They should have spent it on pitching. Adding John Thomson, Tomo Ohka and Victor Zambrano and using two of them in their rotation is scary. It's also scary that Frank Thomas has a lot of injury problems and had problems running on a grass field last year....what's going to happen to his ankles on the Turf in Toronto?

They overpaid, that's a given. Spent it better? It depends. Maybe just saved it up for next year. People are saying they should have gotten pitching- but most of the pitchers on the market either wanted to stay out West or were sub-par. The only way I could see them having used it better would have been to put in a serious bid at Matsuzaka.

Quite honestly, there wasn't that much on the market to help out the Jays- which is unfortunate, because it means another tough year ahead. Barring Burnett pitching like Santana, the Jays aren't going to be competitive for a postseason spot- so why sign an aging DH? You win some more games, but instead you could put aside that money for next year's free agents and legitimately try for Santana himself.

As a lifelong Sox fan, and as a season ticket holder, I have seen a ton of Big Frank. He was the best hitter in the 90's. Hands down. But as the 2000's started, he started to break down in him ankles. This will only get worse, not better. I believe the Jays just spent a ton on a guy who cannot run anymore. He will cause problems on the base paths.
As far as overspending - they did. Toronto fell into the trap this offseason - they paid way too much for average players.

They did give him a lot for an older dude who has had injuries before last year's nice comeback season. i agree w/ others that they were more in need of some pitching... so YES, I really do think they could have spent more wisely!

well if he has a year anything like he did with the A's last year then Thomas would be a good player to invest in
If he gets injured like 2 years ago then it will be a bad deal
