I am going to take a pregnancy test in about a week and a half. I am on a generic of Ortho-tri-cyclen and I am wondering if I should keep taking it for the next week or so until I find out? Can anyone who's gotten pregnant while on the pill let me know if it's dangerous for the baby until I find out?

You will be fine. I was on ortho tri cyclen when I got pregnant. All birth control is supposed to do is release pregnancy hormones to keep you from ovulating...not actually harm a baby that is already conceived. With older/stronger pills, there are risks, but with these and most pills on the market today, they have revamped the formula so as not to kill the embryos. Studies done recently indicate that mother who took the pill while pregnant had babies with the same percentage of defects as babies whose mothers didn't take the pill. Those high doses of hormones also posed more risks for women, pregnant or not. Just think...if birth control pills killed babies, women would just take them for a couple months whenever they wanted to abort. As far as miscarriages go, my doctor says most miscarriages are due to problems with the fetus that would have led to deformity and illness once born, regardless of what you do. I did a lot of research on this, because I was on the pill when I got pregnant, and I, like you, wanted to make sure my baby would be okay. I hope I helped you!

taking control pills can be dangerous, if you want to keep the baby. Because it can cause you to have a miscarriage. That is how I lost my first baby. The clinic I went to used out of date pregnancy tests(I didn't know until afterwords), and they said I wasn't pregnant, so I kept taking the birth control.

My doctor told me that it was fine, just stop taking it immediately if the test comes back positive. It's with continued use that the pill has a chance of causing problems.

If you feel like you would be worried about the effects if you are in fact pregnant, it would be okay to stop taking them, and then after the test, after your period, starting back on a brand new pack. Just use a back-up method for the first month after that. Unless of course the test was positive, and then no worries!

Good luck! I hope you get the results you're wanting!

The pill has a low risk of birth defects... stop taking if you're pregnant, but you should stay on it until then.
