Well, I'm 59 yrs old and a single women. My major fear is my health. I worked for a company that didn't offer hospitalization so I paid for my own. I was diagnosed with RA three years ago then 2 other auto immune disease. I understand getting disability is very difficult so I was fortune enough to live in an area that housing was "through the roof'. I sold my house and moved to SC and was able to buy a single family house in Florence who has good medical care, and still have enough money to live off of the interest, dividends and capital gains I'm making off of the money I had left from my house. I was hired as a tax preparer in Jan. and I lasted 3 weeks. It's really unlikely I'll ever be able to do more than work or volunteer part time. The health system in the US "sucks'. That is my greatest fear.

Complex question. First of all, they're facing a lost youth.
They don't feel so old, but their reflections show their age. They are beginning to feel aches and pains they never felt before, and last but not least, they are facing the fact that they are not invulnerable to death.
So, having said all that, I think they fear the fact they might not have enough money saved for retirement, with only approximately 15-20 years of career time left to work, and who knows how much living time after that.
