What are the similarities between the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to the cursades? I would like to see as many conections as you can.

Apart from the fact that the Crusades (not 'cursades') were also fought in the Middle East, there isn't a lot of comparison.

First of all, the purpose of the Crusades was originally to cut down on fighting between landowners in Europe by giving them a common cause in 'rescuing' the pilgrimage sites associated with the life of Christ.

The war in Afghanistan was to restore autonomy to the Afghan people. Perhaps you might enjoy life under a theocratic regime that denied women such basic human rights as literacy, being seen in public without a male escort (and then covered from top to toe in veils and robes so as to not reveal anything but, perhaps, her hands), or even looking out the window of her own home, but I don't think it would suit many of us.

As for Iraq, I have nothing but a bunch of mixed feelings. I'm not even sure anymore why we're there; the situation has deteriorated to such a level that the country is now in a state of civil war (call it an insurgency if you will, but it's Iraqi against Iraqi, and that, to me, constitutes a civil war), and all of the troops over there are somebody's son, daughter, husband, wife, mother, father, cousin, aunt, uncle, friend--you see where I'm going with this--and they're getting shot at, probably by both sides. It's only a matter of time until the Iraqis decide that we're the common enemy and start a crusade of their own.
