the problem is set up like this

x-13 3x-3
---------- + --------
x^2-x-12 x^2-x-12

I have got
4x-16
-------
x^2-x-12

am I right?

I got this by keeping the denominator the same then taking
x-13+3x-3=x+3x=4x and -13-3=-16

I wish I could say that you are right. You need to factor a 4 out of the top and factor the bottom. You will then be able to cancel out a factor.

Hope this helped
