It's called auditory hallucinations. I'm surprised that you like them. When it happens to me it freaks me out!
Anyhow, since it is happening right before you fall asleep, I would say that you might have a mild form of narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder characterized by irregular REM (Rapid Eye Movement, when you do most of your dreaming) patterns. You see, a "normal" person does not go into their first REM cycle of sleep until they have been asleep for approximately 45 minutes. In a person with Narcolepsy, REM presents immediately upon drifting off to sleep. The result: You hear and sometimes even see things that aren't really there because you are going directly from being awake to having a dream.

No, that is not normal. You should not hear anyone talking unless there are actual people near you that are speaking.
It's nice that you have something that makes you feel comfortable, but I am a little concerned and I'd like to encourage you to seek a professional opinion about this.
What are the voices telling you? Are they even talking to you, or are you kind of listening in on their conversation? Are they saying bad things? Soothing things?
These are the type of questions that I urge you to think about b/c if it's more negative interaction, then yeah definately see a therapist.

I think it's normal, your vision is going down so some of the other things like hearing gets higher, I never hear the air conditioner during the day or the neighbors kids, but at night they seem to get louder. I hear them now.

As long as the voices aren't telling you to set fire to anything...
It's normal. We can fall asleep because we are at ease and we find the most peaceful way to accomplish this. As our brains shut down, we can hear things we normally wouldn't. In your case its voices, most likely that of family, even though you may not recognise them.

As long as these voices aren't telling you to do things like kill people or something, I wouldn't worry. Otherwise you might possibly have schizophrenia.
