how do i create "secret" characters in instant message screens???

i have seen characters that look like hearts and other shapes on internet sites such as bebo profiles. how do i create them both on the web pages and on instant messenger?????????

Characters in what's called Unicode include nearly every written language and lots of symbols.

Use the character map in Windows to copy special characters. Mac has something similar.
