A big part of it is the way the people think and behave and our individualistic culture rather than the government or "system". We have tons of red tape and licensing and regulation hurdles, like everyone else. The difference is that the people can be their own boss if they work hard, and many choose to do so.
Lower taxes than most european nations helps, and we lack an aristocracy and have no vestiges of monarchies and "old" money, which also helps. Most of Europe also went through a silly Socialist or Communist stage which set them back tremendously.
Europe has fewer innovative companies for those reasons. Asia mostly plays catch-up, copycat and downright pirating, which by definition is not innovation.

Corporate Personhood is the simple answer. I don't believe it works better but it's what defines American capitalism. It was never intended by the Founders that they receive such a privilege without taking on the full responsibilities of a citizen. A Supreme Court ruling in 1886 paved the way for it.

Private property rights, and the ability to borrow on this property is what gives many small businesses the ability to operate with flexibility.
This is not nearly as easy in many other countries; especially countries with restricted property rights.

There is no other major power in our hemisphere.
We have been able to keep the wars of the last century in other countries territory. Our industrial complex has not been bombed.
