They actually did it to protect his arm. He was overthrowing in the bullpen. But they will miss him out there as they don't have a clue as to who their closer will be this season.

There was a major concern that his shoulder problems at the end of the 2006 were due to his use as a closer. A closer's job is very stressful on the arm, and not everyone can do it - that's why good closers are such a premium.

He obviously showed a great deal of talent and the thinking is that the routine of being in the rotation is less stressful to the shoulder. He's a young player with the potential to have a long and successful career. You don't mess with that.

I think the Red Sox are doing the right thing, even if it means they lack a true closer. It is better to protect a young arm.

He'll be a fine starter. He pitched a great game in August 2005 in Anaheim. Scoreless tie until the eighth when Renteria and Manny homered. He is being converted back to starter at the suggestion of the Red Sox team physician who was monitoring Pap's shoulder strain late in the season last year.

Hell's yes...Pap has belonged in the rotation all along. I caught a game he started in Baltimore in '05 and he was light's out. He is going to have a showing like Broyo did in two years back. 15-16 wins easy.

Any guy who dominated like he did last year should have had the chance to do it again. His ERA was awesome for a closer. Joel Pineiro is the leading candidate now and that doesn't bode well for the Bosox.

Who's going to close? Their relievers are suspect and they have no bonafide closer on staff. Trouble is looming.
