I don't understand all this technical stuff, but maybe you can help?

Computer 1:
Optical Drives: Super Multi 8X DVD±R/RW w/ Double Layer
RAM (Preloaded / Maximum): 512MB DDR2 (2 DIMM) (Exp. To 2048MB)
Hard Drive: 100GB SATA (5400RPM)
Processor Type: Intel Celeron M 430
*******
Computer 2:
Optical Drives: DVD-RW Double Layer
RAM (Preloaded / Maximum): 1024MB 667DDR2 2DM
Hard Drive: 80GB (5400RPM)
Processor Type: Intel Core 2 Duo

(Computer 1 is about $400 cheaper than Computer 2, so keep that in mind when helping me figure out which of the 2 is the better deal).
Thank you for your help!!

I would definitely take computer 2 over the cost savings. Core 2 Duo is the latest processor and is 64-bit, which will give your laptop a greater life span. I would not spend a $1 on Celeron technology, it is inferior to everything else out there. If you need more than 80 GB down the road (say, you are really into mp3's), hard drives are easy to replace. If you ever consider running Windows Vista, Microsoft's latest operating system, computer 2 is the only way to go.

The first computer is a Celeron CPU running at 1700 MHz which is slow by today's standards, and being a celeron chip will have less cache memory.
The second computer has a dual core CPU which will definitely be superior, and considering that the slowest model of this chip is at least 1800 MHz, would make this computer faster and more flexible for running various programs, and better for 3D gaming.

Having said that, with the added RAM on the first computer, they would probably compare in speed overall. If you are not a gamer and use your computer for just normal surfing the net, downloading music and burning Cd's, then the first one is just fine and a lot cheaper.

There is no doubt that the second computer is the better of the two, but price and what the computer will be used for is a very big factor. If you are not a gamer, then I would choose the first computer.

A processor is one thing I would never sacrifice price for. I consider a Celeron processor to be a joke. In my experiences with people buying Celeron processors, they work fine as soon as you purchase the laptop, but when your hard drive starts getting cluttered and even small bits of spyware, the Celeron has a hard time keeping up .

When buying a laptop, I always tell people to figure out how much money you want to spend and then buy the best you can because laptops are for the most part not upgradeable. In this case computer 2 would be much better.

Depends on what you plan to do with the PC. The Celeron processor is junk and with half the RAM, unless you plan to do nothing other than browse a few web pages, you do NOT want a Celeron.

Celeron chips have a smaller L2 cache (9128kb), which translates into slower processing speeds. In fact, current Celerons have a clock speed limit of about 2.0GHz, where as the Pentium is capable of speed in excess of 3.0GHz. In addition, the Celeron runs at a higher core voltage because it is less energy effecient.

The Celeron runs at about 60% slower clock-speeds.

Computer 2 is much more powerful. Computer 1 has more hard drive space, but 80GB is fine unless you need to store alot. Computer 1 should be fine for mostly everything, except gaming. That is assuming computer 2 has a good graphics card.

Computer 2 I think is a Mac, so I say computer 2. Not just because it's a Mac, but because I think you'll get a lot more use out of it.

Macs are pretty much out of the box. For a desktop, all you do is blug the monitor into the wall, the keyboard into the monitor, the mouse into the keyboard, and you're ready to go.

Threr are only 4 known viruses on Macs, compared to the 19000+ for Windows.

Almost all accessories for Macs are plug & play.

Upgrade your Mac OS operating system and programs with FREE downloads on the Apple website.

All new Macs come with valuable software already in them, including iLife '06 (which includes the following applcations: iTunes, iPhoto, iWeb, iMovie HD, and iDVD)

All Macs come with a digital camera and microphone BUILT-IN.

No more confusing installation steps, or configuration steps. Macs are incredibly user-friendly.

In conclusion, a Mac is worth the extra money. Plus when you're done with the computer, you can recycle it for free through Apple.

personally i would buy computer 2 it is a better computer all around that's why it is 400.00 more then one it has dual processors so it is twice as fast,it has twice the ram but in the end it depends on what you will be doing with the computer so if you don't need all of the extra speed go with computer 1.

It is cheaper because it has a celeron for one and less ram. They are deceiving you by a larger hhd and a better optical drive.
