'Living' life is essential for the life. To live life, food, air, clothes, shelter etc are our basic needs, natural instincts need these essentials to sustain only. The real essential things in life are the 'urge ' to live, to have a sense to 'evolve' in life. Human mind always tries to 'rise' in materialistic world, everybody wants to rule and for this we all want money and power. This is what we think is essential for life, while it is not so. Life has a certain time span, who ever is born will DIE, so all such things will remein here on this earth, somebody else will enjoy it or use it. So its not essential.
Love, generosity, forgiveness, kindness, compassion, helping others....these things are essential. Loving everybody is essence of life. What you give to others , come backs to you.Sooner you realise better for us all. knowing self, knowing the soul, achieving 'nirvana' is essential, rest is all myth.......false hope.

Could you ask something a little less nebulous. There is no one "thing" that is essential. There are many "things" which all have to exist and occur.

the most essential thing in life is to be glad of whatever we have achieved..its just that one should be thankful to God for whatever he has given us...its all about being aware of what one has achieved.
