Back in 1982, I met my sister-in-laws neighbor. He had written 27 books. His name was Howard Sutton. He wrote THE WEST BY THE EAST. He was the son of the Sealtest family (the best known ice cream company at the time). This man was 76 years old in 82. He showed me his letter that he received from President Kennedy congratulating him on this new book. A few years later I had often wondered if he was Lamour. This man had sailed a tall ship in the Australian waters, dived with an antiquated diving bell, which I saw, and taxidermed many animals. Also kept rattlesnakes in his fridge to milk for venum. He also had properties at Bisbee, AZ that he went copper mining in. He called his property SKULL CREEK CANYON. He told that he wanted me to know him as a friend and not to elaborate on his fame, so he was not going to tell me his pseudonym(pen name).

I met sutton and have been in his home on the far west side of Tucson. Everything in this article is true and there is much more. Probably the most colorful human from the past I have ever met.

I believe that your assumption may be correct. I think there was a piece done on him on 20-20 or one of the discovery channels. This is the Internet; try searching his name on google or wikipedia.
