I'm almost positive it is, but it is illegal to be in a gang? I'm saying like what if you are part of a gang but dont take partt in any gang activity. Sorry if it may sound like a stupid question, but I'm just wondering.

The answers so far have been good enough. Thanks. I was just wondering because some of my closest friends have relatives who are in the Blood gang and Im kinda concerned on behalf of their safety and their relatives safety.

My question would be why would you want to join a gang? For the comaderie, the feeling of being tough, or maybe you need protection from other kids in your neighborhood or school, what is it and do you need it. It's not illegal but mind you if your fellow members are partaking in illegal activity and you are privy to it meaning you are aware of it you maybe considered an accomplice or be held in jail for withholding information to protect your friends could create a downhill legal spiral in which you may then risk life or death depending on any further actions you decide to take. Once your in a gang there is usually no way out except through death....Life is to short..make as many friends as you can...better your talents and education...be an asset to your community not a detriment to it!

There are groups, clubs, and of course gangs. It would be difficult to be a gang member or part of a gang without breaking the law in some way. If you know, for instance, the gang or a gang member did something illegal and you fail to report it to the proper authorities then you are equally guilty of the same illegal act and can be charged with the same crime. Failure to report a crime is a crime.
It is legal to belong to a Chess Club, or a Football Team where the activities are within the law.

It wouldn't be illegal to be apart of a gang but I would think that it would be illegal if the gang was doing something illegal or wrong where as their actions are involved to commit a crime of some sort.
All I could think of since it's an ever growing concern in society is teen gangs who beat up on kids after school. It seems to be the most current thing I keep hearing in the news and it's probably on the web as well since people post things and get their kicks out of watching others being bruttally beaten.

It is not illegal to be part of a group or organization, but involvement in a gang is illegal if the gang commits illegal activity. Members of a gang may be charged with organized crime.

Belonging to a gang isn't illegal, per se. The activity and support are what's criminal. If you hide or abet criminals, it can be as bad, legally, as selling drugs or killing someone. To belong, you have to pledge to help your fellow members at any cost. Best bet, steer clear of anyone or anything that doesn't make you or someone else a better person.

Gang implies criminal activity, and if you are part of a group that engages in criminal activity then yes it is illegal. If you're just part of a group of people that hangs out and likes to look all bad, then no.

It may not be illegal to actually be in a gang, but you can just as easily get sacked for being associated with them.

No, its not illegal to be part of a gang, anymore than it is illegal to be an Elk or an Eagle. What is illegal is if those gangs participate in illegal activity like assault, robbery, rape, murder.

I don't know if it's illegal, but why anyone would want to be a part of a group of people to get what they want in life by intimidation and crime,I'll never understand.
