The father. All egg cells are female... it's the male sperm cells that determine gender, either by having a XX chromosomal pair or an XY chromosomal pair.

Which is why, whenever my mom bugged me about having a grand daughter I would tell her, "Tell it to my husband! All I carry is girls!"

that would be the father.
Males have XY - each sperm carries either X or Y
Females have XX - each egg is always X

x + x = XX the result will be a female child
y + x = XY the result will be a male child

Thats what I remember from Biology class - genetics. Hope it helps.
