breast feed baby

It is normal for a 6-week old to be quite gassy... is there some other problem going along with it like pain? You might look into some infant massage before resorting to drugs since he is so young.

It is nearly impossible for a healthy, exclusively breastfed baby to be constipated. However, it is also normal for them to go up to a week between bowel movements. As long as the poop is soft, the frequency is not an issue.

First of all at six weeks if it is problem, call the doctor. Also, there is some anti-gas drops you can find anywhere that are pretty safe for infants. I always bought the store brand at Wal-Mart so I do not remember the real name for it. The pharmacist should be able to help you. Also, on the internet you can buy an all natural product called "gripe water" that really helps. My youngest daughter had gas really bad from the time she was 5 days old. The pain was so bad at that time that time she was holding her breath, and when we rushed her to the hospital thinking she could not breathe she just had gas. Both my girls always had (and still have problems with) chronic constipation. If you are not breast feeding you might reconsider your formula. Also, when my girls were old enough to start drinking juice, my pediatrician had them both drink a bottle full of diluted prune juice twice a day. Now that they are older, I sprinkle fiber powder on the foods they eat. There are several foods to stay away from as well when they get older, even with baby food, such as bananas and potatoes. My pediatrician told me a little trick in remembering what to feed them to help them "poop". Stick with foods that start with "P for poop": peaches, pears, peas, etc!

Best Constipation Cures

For the gas..most defintely Mylicon Drops for Infants....with constipation and the baby so young that would be best left to a pediatrician....but then if you dont want to ask a doctor there is Fletchers Castoria..its a laxative for infants and children...you still need to talk to a Pharmacist to get the right dosage for the age and weight of your child! Gas and constipation in one that young is horrible! But it gets better! Good luck!!

Something that helped my son out with the pain was to lay a pillow (without pillowcase) down and to lay him on his stomach on top of it and it put pressure on his belly..he seemed to like it...or also letting him sleep on my stomach made it better too...when he slept I was able to sleep..there are different position of holding them that makes them feel better!

It could also be the formula that is causing this so it would be a good idea to ask doctor about also!!

at six weeks old you really need to call the dr. before you give him anything. They will probably recommend changing formula, and possible infant gas drops. But seriously at that age call the dr.

ok, breast fed...then she's not constipated, lol. The gas can and most likely is something in your diet. Still ask dr about drops though.

You can give a 6 week old Mylicon the smallest dose. As far as constipation if your breastfeeding eat more fiber remember that what you eat gets passed along to him if your formula feeding consult your doctor about constipation.

My twn daughters have been using Mylicon infant gas drops since about 3 weeks old. They were recently experiencing constipation and the pedi recommended 2 oz of baby apple or pear juice twice a day and it has worked wonders.

For gas you can give mylacon drops....(gas drops, they have store named brands that work the same for cheaper) If she is breastfeed she might not be constipated, breastfeed babies poop less often than formula fed, once every 3 -5 days opposed to at least once a day. If she is formula fed her formula might not be agreeing with her, so you might want to look in to changing it. also ask your Dr if she recommends giving her juice, water or a little Karo syrup. juice is 3 parts water one part juice ( prob prune or like an apple pear work the best) and the Karo syrup is one teaspoon in her bottle. good luck

Mylicon drops or Gerber's Gas Relief Drops for the gas. Check with your doctor before using corn syrup on a baby that age, but you should use the dark Karo syrup and buy a new bottle. Corn syrup can harbor botulism spores after sitting around a while.
