I'm having trouble solving this:
(3/ x-2) - 2 = 1.4x/ (2x+1)

please show me your steps. I think im having some serious trouble with multiplying x-2 out, but anyways please help. thankx

Wow, that is an ugly problem! It isnt often that youe see decimals in this type of problem, was that a typo? Since I hate fractions, I am going to start by getting rid of them by multiplying both sides by the common denominator. Note that I am going to use a lot of grouping symbols cause fractions on here get ugly. I suggest handwriting this explanation!

[(x-2)(2x+1)]*[(3/ x-2)-2] = [(x-2)(2x+1)]*[1.4x/ (2x+1)]

Distribute on the left side

[(x-2)(2x+1)]*[3/(x-2)]-[(x-2)(2x+1)]*(2)=[(x-2)(2x+1)]*[1.4x/ (2x+1)]

Now do all the cancellation and multiplication you can

6x+3+4x^2-6x-4=1.4x^2-2.8x

Now gather all the like terms

4x^2-1=1.4x^2-2.8x

Move all the x's to one side

4x^2-1.4x^2-2.8x-1=0

2.6x^2-2.8x-1=0

Now use the quadratic formula to find your answers, I think you can do that yourself though I bet you will need a calculator!!

Hope that helped

(3/x-2) -2 = 1.4x/(2x+1)
You can do anything you want to an equation, just as long as you do it to each side equally.

So first, we multiply each term by (x-2)

[3(x-2)]/(x-2) - 2(x-2) = [1.4x(x-2)]/(2x+1)
the (x-2) cancels (x-2)/(x-2) =1 and multiply the rest out
3 -2x -4 = (1.4x^2 -2.8x)/(2x+1)
multiply each term by (2x+1) to eliminate the remainnig fraction
-2x(2x+1) -1(2x+1) = 1.4x^2 -2.8x
multiply out
-4x^2 -2x -2x -1 = 1.4x^2 -2.8x
set equation = to 0
0 = 1.4x^2 -2.8x +4x^2 +4x +1
combine
0 = 5.4x^2 +1.2x +1
multiply by 10 to eliminate decimal
0 = 54x^2 +12x +10
divide by 2
0 = 27x^2 +6x +5
and then solve the quadratic...
