OMG people, not the american express! I want to know what the american stock exchange is, like a definition of it!!!

As fatsausage already told you, it is a place where stocks are traded and similar to the New York Stock Exchange. It is located in New York, not Chicago as fatsausage indicated.

The AMEX also trades options on stocks. The NYSE does not.
