for haliburton and weapons industry sure.....but not for average americans. consider the cost of the military, R&D, training, hardware, and then the treatment of wounded.....
if it is so lopsided, how do americans justify this need for war, when its a small percentage that benefits?

It's not justified based on economics. It's mandated by the Constitution. The federal government is required to defend and protect the citizenry through military action as necessary, including creation and support of standing armies. If you are concerned about the amount of money the government is spending, then look at how many agencies are funded that are prohibited by the Constitution. Go to the link listed below to see a general breakdown of the US budget projection for fiscal 2007. Of the 22 agencies listed on the graph, the government only has Constitutional authority to fund 7. The vast majority of our budget is paid to social programs - at last count 54%. The military budget pales in comparison, typically accounting for <15% of total expenditures, despite the fact that the government is Constitutionally required to defend us, and is Constitutionally prohibited from funding social programs. It appears the problem lies somewhere other than the defense budget.

The answer to your good question has to be "Yes", war is profitable for the US. History can prove it. The Great Depression of the Thirties, did not end until WW2 started in 1941. Jobs took off because of the enormous defense buildup.
It's hard to believe, but because of two ongoing wars, record defense spending, we now have prosperity. Sadly, but true, that's a fact about our capitol form of government.
There is no justification for this needless war, the masses were swayed by the powerful few.

It's not the poor that make the decisions. War does bolster the economy. It's a poor way to make sure a president can say in his term the economy was so good. I agree. We need to get out. And I don't care how we look doing it. We aren't helping Iraq and we aren't helping ourselves. This is a fiasco that is killing our youth. Didn't anyone learn anything from Vietnam?

War is never and has never been profitable for the general public of this country. But, it has always been profitable for the Globalists' agenda, and that is why they all start wars, by playing one end against the other, and bankrolling both sides!!!!

the need of war is to protect oneself from harm of another. Beneifts is that you get to keep your way of life if you win. Your not looking at the other side- if you introduce large amounts of money into a particular sector of working, then it directly impacts all others.... food, real estate, vehicles, etc- which in return impacts all of then and the cylce continues for them.
