Unfortunately it can happen as the spine consists of vertebrates and if it is so damaged it includes a bad tear or break of the spinal cord or nerve carrying cord it could result in the parts of the body that require that nerve control being paralyzed I will pray for you all .

It's a possibility, but try to think positive. There are a lot of factors to account for. The vertebrae make up the spine. One being crushed doesn't cause you to be paralyzed. It is around the spinal cord though. It is dangerous. If it has affected the cord, then you have reason for concern. The surgery is more than like to see if it has affected the cord and to repair the bone (probably before it affects the cord). Either way, you are looking at a lot of rehab.

The crushed vertebrae itself will not cause paralysis. However, the crushed vertebrae could damage the spinal cord and if the spinal cord is damaged, paralysis is a possibility. Without knowing more about his condition, it's hard to say what the risks are for your Dad. Can you call the hospital and speak with one of his doctors or nurses? This might help to put your mind at ease. They will be able to explain his injuries and the treatments they are planning for him. Good luck.

Yes - BUT I have heard a lot of instances where there were crushed vertebrae and the person was not paralyzed but had to deal with recovering. Pray for him and believe he will recover - send him good vibes! He will be OK, thank G_O_D that he is still alive and make sure to give him a big hug!

not enough evidence. is fracture displaced or not?
if the the peice of the bone touching or cutting into spinal cord he can have neurodeficit. even if edema (swelling) forms at the site of injury-this can to make him paralized. the good thing is that edema in most cases reabsorbs back and clears. but if bone from vertebra gets into cord it is very high probability for paralysis

Any serious spinal injuries can leave you paralized, a crushed vertabrea could do this as well, but it is not a 100% thing, it will all depend on the amount of damage and how well things heal up. I hope your father ends up alright.

If the broken vertrebra has affected his spinal cord, he may be.
I have 3 broken vertebrae in my back from an auto accident, & I can walk fine. My spinal cord was not affected.
