is this not included in prenatal classes there, here they cover all the false beliefs people used to have too, just so you are prepared when that old lady in the mall tells you what you should or shouldn't be doing... it seems like there are no sex ed or prenatal classes in the states, by the questions and many of the answers on here... or is it because health care is more expensive in the states? But still, there's lots of reading material on these subjects, why don't they know these things?

translusce - your doctor was obviously not educated in this century, or just the worst in his class - and your issue is entirely psychosomatic.

What old wives' tale is that? Actually lying on the left side does tend to move the uterus off the inferior vena cava and is useful in an occasional situation, so this could be an example of legend born of a small bit of truth.

What does the expense of health care in the US have to do with sleeping on your left side when you are pregnant? I am a nurse and there are actually many benefits to many different organs if you sleep on your left side. It's not just a pregnancy thing.

My doctor actually told me to do this. And I noticed a difference. When I slept on my right side instead of my left, my brain didnt get enough oxygen, which was bad for the baby and I woke up dizzy and lightheaded. I didnt have that problem at all when I slept on my left side. Now I have not pregnant for 3 years, but I weigh the same, and I still cant lie on my right side or it makes me feel sick when I wake up.

Well, even as much as I wanted to sleep on my left side while I was pregnant with my daughter I couldn't because if I did she would kick me and move until I turned back over to my right side. So I guess I didn't have much of a choice but to sleep on my right side.
