there is red, orange yellow, green, blue and white and i need to know which is rh, rc, w, y, and g

(R) red, hot side of 24 volt transformer
(C) common, neutral side of 24 volt transformer
(Y) yellow, compressor
(W) white,heat
(G) green,furnace blower
(O) orange,energize to cool,(revercing valve on heat pump)
(B) blue, energize to heat
(E) blue, pink, gray or tan, emergency heat
(T) tan or gray,outdoor antisipator reset
(W2) pink or other, second stage heat
(Y2) blue or pink, second stage compressor
(L) blue, brown, tan or gray, service indicator
(X2) second stage of electric heat
(RH) 24 volt hot side of transformer for heat
(RC) 24 volt hot side of transformer for cooling

rh is red for the heating cycle; rc is red for the cooling cycle. These two should have a jumper wire already installed connecting them, therefore you can connect the red wire to either rh or rc, w is for the White wire; y the yellow; & g the green or ground wire. the green & ground wire are the same wire just different names for the same thing.

There are letters embossed into the plastic near the screws to which the wires get connected. Why they are not embossed with a contrasting color I don't know.

If its a furnace with AC coil Red-rh rc jumpered(power) White- w(heat) Green-g(fan)Yellow-y (condensor) Blue is usually a common and Orange-o is usually a reversing valve for heat pump. If your running two different units (boiler and a straight air cond unit you must seperate rh and rc.

It will still be confusing if I tell you. Type in thermostat color code and pick the site you understand the easiest.
