Similarities, eh? Sounds tough, but let's see....

1. They were both possessions of Spain (though England wrested control of Jamaica from the Spanish in the 1600s).
2. They both have, as their official language, that of their former colonizers (Mexico - Spanish, Jamaica - English).
3. They both had indigenous populations at the time of European discovery. Mexico still has various indigenous peoples, but Jamaica's Arawaks were wiped out within 100 years of the arrival of the Spanish (some say within 30 years).
4. They both have, as their predominant religion, one brought from Europe (Mexico - Catholicism, Jamaica - Protestantism).
5. The both suffer from political violence (Mexico - Chiapas, Jamaica - PNP/JLP).
