I'm sure he'll be ok generally but I think he'll have trouble keeping up with Alonso. Alonso is one of the best drivers in the field (arguably the best now that M Schumacher has retired) and Hamilton is a rookie - it'll take him a while to get use to the car under race conditions (much different than testing & practice).

Hopefully he will talk to Alonso and learn a few things here and there to shorten the learning curve. It would be nice to see McLaren back on the sharp end of things.

I think it will be a little bit like Massa at Ferrari last year - team mate to a great champion, driving for a new team, finding his feet and trying his best to do the job for the team. He will probably be a bit rough around the edges in the first part of the season, but I think he will come good towards the end and maybe score a couple of podiums. If the new McLaren turns out to be a good fast reliable car, he will probably win the rookie of the year award. If the MP4-22 is a pig, he will have a tough year. As for Alonso vs Hamilton? It's a no brainer.

He will do great. With a guy like alonso next to him will give him tips and tricks. Soon enough Alonso and Hamilton will be 1 and 2 in the drivers champioship......that is if Maclearen can make a good car!

I think that he will go through his paces this year. I think that maybe Mclaren should have given him a year of testing and put in De La Rosa. This in turn would have given Hamilton the experience he needed while giving McLaren a decent transition between drivers. Even though Fernando is a good driver, he is transitioning to a new car and a new team that is totally opposite of Renault. Hopefully Lewis is a fast learner. Also, Mclaren said that this season will be a learning season for Lewis. Ron Dennis also said that he will personally shield Lewis from the media. Maybe this will give him the focus he needs to succeed. I think that it will be a tough season for him but he is ready for the challenge.

I agree with rockpool248. It will be a steep learning curve, but if the car helps him, then we might see Lewis going for the big places later in the season. But overall, it's no question, Alonso will be center stage for McLaren. They want him to win the WDC, apparently they have been working very hard on improvements over the reliability sector and the MP4-22 looks to be a very competitive car.

Hamilton is over rated in my opinion. Sure he had success in some of the lower series, but half the drivers on the grid can say that, he's in a whole new game now.
Down the road he will probably be a champion, but this year all he will lead in is spectacular crashes.
I would expect Kubica to out perform him overall even with less car.

I think Lewis will be smart enough to give Fernando all the room he needs. There will be a lot of friction at McLaren this season with the reigning champ not happy with the car and with Hamilton getting used to the F1 lifestyle. Should be fun to watch.

Lewis look's a good driver so far but that just in testing it's crunch time when they start the season and you will see if he is a good or bad driver in 2007 season
