I was just re-hired to a company that I previously worked for, for 4 years, however it is in a different location. I am 21 weeks pregnant and I haven't told them. I have heard that you don't need to tell upon hiring because they may discriminate.I know that I probably should have told them, but obviously who is going to hire someone in my situation. I really needed the job and altho it is illegal to not hire someone because they are pregnant, obviously they would have come up with some other reason not to hire me. I don't know how to go about telling them or when I should? Does anyone know the rules for Canada? I have looked but its been very hard to find any information on this.
Thanks in advance!

I'd say tell them when you get too noticable. Maybe a month or after working there...so they know you are still a good worker even though you are preg. Good luck!

You only have to get in 600 hours at a job to get your maternity/family leave in Canada...I'm in BC and that is the rules here. Look for your provinces web site regarding maternity leave. Don't tell them till you have to. They can't let you go because you are pregnant...but watch everything you do because they can let you go in teh first 3 months without cause.

Don't know about Canada, but in the US unless there's a bona fide reason you can't do your job while pregnant (firefighter, police officer, etc) you don't legally have to tell them until 30 days before you intend on taking maternity leave (though they'd probably figure out on their own before then).

i was 30 wks when this one place called to hire me but i turned them down because why start a job and only work a certain amount of weeks im sure they wouldnt care but i felt the need to turn them down so i could be with my baby when he is born. i applied when i was about 22 wks and took them that long just to call back for that position. try to tell them as soon as possible so you can consider maternity leave.
