Can one obtain employment with either a certificate or an associates degree? Can a person go into these classes with little experience?

Yes you can obtain a job with these classes. There isn't much choice however. Unless you are planning on having a career in something specific that you need either a certificate or a AA degree then yes I would say it is waiting your time.
One example is my cousin, went to a school to become a medical assistant and she is (specific)
Another example is I heard that there is a job at a school being a tutor, it is a full time job and the only way you can get it is if you have a AA degree (two year). (unspecific example)
So there are choices and things out there. Two years isn't THAT much time and it can be time well spent.

You can pretty much learn it on your own from books and online rescources. A degree is often a requirement for employment but there are many employers who if you demonstrate your skills will hire you regardless.There are some really good schools and some mediocre ones. Finding a worthwhile program will take some investigation.
