Its an older computer, one has 20gigs, the other is 40, I wanted to make the 40 master with Slave, but, I can't see which placement to put them in. They arent marked on the hard drives themselves.

I believe the 20 gig is a western digital, theres 4 jumper settings. The 40 gig is Seagate with 5 jumpers.

No..these dont have the settings, i already looked.

Go to their web sites, and look up the jumper settings for your different models.

These brand of hard drives have diagrams on the drives to show what jumpers are needed where. If you want to make the 40 the master, then look on the 40's diagram and look for the master or master w/slave and put the jumper where it shows (relative to the power plug), then on the 20, put that jumper where the drive's diagram shows for slave.

The jumper names should be on the drives themselves. They are usually printed in very, very small white lettering on the circuit board area of the rear of the drive, just below the jumpers

i would put them both on cs which stands for cable select.... oh i didnt see that they arent marked on the drive it self. if you send me the model numbers on the drives i can look it up for you and reply back with an answer
