Question about the heat tqpe. I just purchase 18FT long heat tape with therolstat contral install in copper pipe and wrapped around with fiberglass. Unfortunately the pipe got frozon this morning. I touch the cable is very cold. I thought the cable is defect so I went to a store and bought another tape. I plug it to the outlet to test the cable never got warm in an hour. The question is how long will take the cable to heat up? The weather is aound 12F. Thanks.

Heat tape should warm to the touch within ten minutes. Have you plugged something else into the outlet to be sure it's getting electricity to the tape?

Of course, make sure the thermostat is on a setting that turns the tape on!

Sound like you better check the outlet, it's the only other thing it could be. If not have hardware store check the the heat tape for ya so you can get a refund if it is bad.
