i own a repair shop, and that's a e4od in that ,one ,or it should be if it hasn't been changed,as far as it loosing 3rd and o-d ,it may be a band that's gone bad in it,I'm wondering did it ever slip or give any warning signs at all because usually they,ll hesitate or give some kind of a warning when there going bad,i have see them snap a band when its real cold out ,and the trans don't get to warm up real good,id take it and have a transmission mechanic drive it,and see what he says about it,it may just need minor repair ,but id have it checked and go from there with it,good luck i hope this help,s.

Hate to bust your bubble, but gears and bands wear out. Time for a overhaul or change for a good used one. When you got problems like that they are indicative of time for a transmission work.

Now this is just something to look at besides the bad bands.
Now also, when was the last time you did a tranny oil change. I bought a used one at a junk yard and did the usual oil change. The oil out of it was like mud nearly. No wonder it had gone out. I used the cheap oil, ran it for about 500 miles, then changed the oil again. It was a little dirty. I changed the filter and used synthetic oil in it and ran it for about 6 years now and still going strong though. I got lucky. You are losing the top two gears. Also there is a valve, about the size of a PCV valve that goes from the engine to the tranny. This provides the suction necessary to change gears. Check on this item. It will be located toward the rear, passenger side, toward the top of the tranny. People forget about this. I had a bad one and had a hell of a time trying to change gears.

If you take it to a shop get at least 3 opinions if you go there to get it fixed. Let them know that you have taken it to another shop and want their opinion. Reason, so they will not try to screw you too bad. Also, get any warranty in writing.

People buy 4X4 vehicle, like my sister for example, just to say they have one, yet NEVER take it where you will need a 4X4 vehicle.

Your bands with in the transmission are worn or the clutch pak is gone, time for either a new tranny or a rebuild, a good used trans may be had too. If you want a good one e-mail me.
