I am about 8 weeks pregnanat and for the past 3 or 4 weeks i have had abdominal cramping. I know you feel some sort of cramping during early pregnancy due to your body adjusting to the baby and every woman is different, but is it normal to have cramping for that long? It happens everyday, periodically through out the day, some times its quite mild, sometimes its a little painful/uncomfortable, and sometimes i get sharp pains. I also noticed what I think is brownish spotting on my underwear today and yesterday (only happened on one occasion each time). Im going to the doctor soon, but it just confuses me and I would like to know what other people think it maybe.

I had cramping from 6 weeks up until about 12 weeks. Like you, I was concerned but my doctor had me come in, check everything out and assured me all was fine. Just like you said, it was my body adjusting to the baby. As for what you thought might have been brownish spotting, I would call your doctor and let him/her know what was going on and also about the cramping. Can't never be to safe I think. Good luck and I hope all goes well with your pregnancy. I know how scary all this can be for you, so just try to relax and if your still worried, call your doctor. That is what they are there for :)

If you are having pain that severe then i would definitely go to the ER. It might be nothing to worry about but if it is an ectopic pregnancy then it could rupture which is very dangerous for you! When i had suspected ectopic they had me on a drip 'just in case' before they had even confirmed what it was. The fact that you have such severe pain and shoulder pain suggests that something is wrong whether it be with the pregnancy or just with you. Go to the hospital asap and good luck! ps/ as for the scan they sometimes dont see anything until 6 weeks so that doesnt mean anything!

I really think you should call your dr. on the next business day and explain to the dr. what is goin' on. Hun, from experience you can never be too careful when you are carrying a baby. My open you are not quite far enough along to be cramping. So make sure you talk to your dr. very soon.

Hope your pregnancy goes great and you have a healthy beautiful baby!!

Cramping in early pregnancy is normal..It is your uterus growing and the pains could be the ligaments stretching. But the brown discharge would be a reason to call your Dr. ASAP. Good luck, I hope all goes well.

Call your doctor now. NOW! You may be perfectly fine, but spotting is always a reason to call your doctor immediately during pregnancy. Cramping is also cause for concern. The two together=call NOW!
