I agree with the answerer that said, the diaper manufacturers must've found a way to make them hold more on all sides...
the idea behind the m/f diapers was that boys and girls wet in different places in their diapers...and the patterns that were just marketing, of course...
They still offer boys and girls training pants with patterns on them...

Because it was pretty much pointless. A diaper is a diaper, they all have the stretchy sides now, and can be used universally. The designs are a neutral pattern so they can be worn on either sex. I think it's a better idea that way you don't have to worry about the store being out of your size diapers for your gender of child.

Did they? My mother used cloth diapers on all of us. We've had our share of leaks with my son, but nothing major. I'd like to know why they don't make a one piece toilet seat attachment with a "tunnel" for boys. When my youngest brother was being toilet trained (He's going to be 40 in May. Yikes!!), my mother had a one piece, plastic toilet seat attachment for him with a tunnel to guarantee that there would be no splashing no matter how forceful the flow was. Now, with that cushion, and that straight up and down "guard," pee goes everywhere, every time! The "guard" almost guarantees splattering. If I knew how to get it down, I'd do it myself and market the thing.

I don't know why they stopped, but the modern ones worked fine for us. Although I do recall the few times the urine flowed out of my sons diaper because of the position his penis was in, perhaps. But it only happened a couple of time and wasn't really a big problem.

They probably figured that a good diaper will have coverage for all areas. It makes sense to me. Also, consumers probably complained because either one or the other was in stock, and/or they accidently bought the wrong kind, etc.

I don't know why, but I did read somewhere that pampers swaddlers were made for boys, and when my daughter was born she alway wet through them and my nephew used them at the same time and never did. I know once you get in to training pants they are made for different sex.

Well here in Australia they still do. We have huggies for boys and huggies for girls (not sure if other brands have it - huggies is the only one i know). They have different patterns and different coloured patterns for boys and girls (the traditional pink and blue).

Why does it matter what the design is on something they are going to poop in?
