They are in a 55 gallon community tank.I just worry they might jump out of one of the small openings I have for the filters, etc.I don't think it's water quality as I change 1/2 the tank water every 2 weeks. If it helps with the answer, there are 5 balas,3 red finned sharks,2 goldfish (which are new),and 2 really large algae eaters (about 12 inches each)

The first thought that comes to my mind honestly is crowding. That's a lot of fish for a 55 gallon. Balas are normally quite active midwater swimmers and do have some history as jumpers, but if you thin out the fish population some you will probably see them settle down quite a bit.

sounds like a very nice tank. although I don't think the water changes are the problem, I think i remember 25% water changes would suffice every 2 weeks. I think your bala sharks might be jumping to obtain food from the surface...and maybe they just like it.

Your tank is overcrowded!! You should have AT LEAST a 100 gallon tank for bala sharks, but they'll soon outgrow even that.

Bala Sharks are natural jumpers so it is necessary to keep the aquarium entirely covered. n

i think a 50% change is too much, but thats just me
also the algae eaters could be irritateing them, and try using some amquel + it safely reduces nitrites, whitch can be irritating,

and dude, you should know better about the goldfish
