There is no 6th Generation iPod of any type. The Mini, Shuffle, and Nano have all been released in two distinct generations, the iPhone has yet to see its first generation released, and the regular iPod is officially only in its 5th generation. Due to the differences that have been made to the iPod Video (brighter screen, longer battery life, Search function, $50 lower MSRP at both price points, and the 60GB has been bumped to 80GB), the updated version is commonly referred to as the 5.5G iPod Video. Any 6G iPod will be officially designated as such by Apple, and will undoubtedly include increased capacity at both price points as well as a redesigned case, such as what recently happened with the Nano. Not only did each price point have its capacity doubled for the same MSRP, but they changed from a case that was styled after the 5G Video to one that ties back to the aluminum-clad Mini design.
I haven't looked at the 5.5G Video yet, but for the 30GB model I'd guess that, aside from pulling up the Search function (even with updated firmware, this does not appear as an option on the original 5G), you could check the date on the bottom of the back. Mine says 2005, and the 5.5G should say 2006 (the year it was released). If it's the larger capacity model, you can just determine which version it is based on the different capacities.

The iPod nano 6th era has bumped off the video playback characteristic, shake to shuffle, video digital camera. So easily the 6th era bumped off all the relaxing issues out of the older nano's and became it right into a wealthy guy's iPod shuffle.
