Marriage should be between you, your husband/wife and God.

Actually marriage has ALWAYS been in the hands of the state, it has ALWAYS been a civil union long BEFORE Religion was thought of. Marriages were based on economics and the need for fathers to get their daughters out of their homes so that their sons could benefit. Religion didn't come into the for hundreds of years after man began walking on this earth and Christian marriages weren't around for the first 2,000 years humanity was here Christian marriages only came about AFTER the death of Christ.

Marriage is a civil union, by law. Getting married is a legal term and a legal act.
Adding a ceremonial celebration of a chosen faith is just that, symbolic.

Religions have guidelines for marriage like they do for any other conduct a person should abide by. I truly believe that's where their input should stop.

I do not believe anymore that the Church should have any saying, or give any advice to married couples.
Why would they? They are not married. They do not have children. They have never had any of these experiences to relate to. They can only show compassion.
The state doesn't do a bang up job either, but it isn't based in guilt, which is pointless.

Good luck.

Actually i think that it should be obsolete and if it has to be then have the state renew it based on findings every year or two years like a drivers license ..Its not based on anything religious anymore and its just a farce really.I got married in a church by a minister and also by a justice of the peace but well who needs a outside agreement sometimes just marry yourself is good enough. .

Marriage is a convenant between two people and God. God created marriage. However, I blame both the government and the church for the high rate of divorce we have. The government has made it too easy and the church is not making people accountable for their actions.

I see both points and sides to this . I agree with you that God and the church should have alot to do with it but also the state and law have to make it legal and valid. God has to be the center of the marriage though and that is very important to a marriage.
