At that age, it's more important to make sure that any hair cut is easy to maintain- shampoo, comb out, and requires little to no styling. As tempting as it is to get a really cute and stylish cut for him, as a mom myself, I can tell you that the reality isn't that simple. Young kids don't like to sit still long enough for mom to do their hair. And it's not a good idea to load down their hair with styling products.

Talk to the barber about a simple cut that follows the natural shape of his head, and the way his hair grows. He'll know what you are talking about. I did this with my son (who's 6), and ended up with a cut that looks good on him, and takes almost no effort to do. Since the hair was cut to follow the growth pattern, you aren't trying to force it to lay a certain way, and ending up with hair sticking up in every direction. We've kept the same style for a little over 3 years, and it's so much easier on me to wash, dry, and comb out his hair than all the cutsy things I was trying before that.

The most adorable haircut for your boy world probally be kind of surfer boy look. Some sort of bangs in the front (swoopy ones) and a little long in the back. Don't go short. It is so 90's and it looks awful. You boy sounds really cute. I love redheads!

for little boys cuts, I like the basic boy haircut, tapered on the sides and neckline but just a bit longer on the top so it can be spiked when he wants to... or just combed neatly for special occasions... and I love the color ... strawberry blonde! ;o) nice!

let it kind of grow out. it doesn't have to be neat, he's going to mess it up anyway. make sure there's no hair over his eyes, little boys like to run and that obscures his vision, which increases his chances of getting hurt.

it depends on the face type. (round, oval, heart, square) if he has a high forehead, i recommend bangs. but remember he's only four. as long as they're clean, you shouldn't care that much of what a four year old looks like. :)
