You may be a geek now, but enjoy it while it lasts. Later in life, you will work in the music business and then everyone you went to high school with will be jealous of you.

In high school, the typical kid is ignorant to what is really cool. You may be labeled as a geek during your high school time.

After you graduate and start living in the real world, you will be super cool. Super cool by the standard of what really is cool. Playing in a jazz band is super cool. Keep it going. Don't let any ignorant fools get in your way.

i'm! I play lead alto / piano. My sought after style of jazz to play is bebop (fowl, Coltrane, etc.) or something from Mingus or the previous Brubeck Quartet. one element i actual hate approximately jazz is that all people expects you to play a medium-pace swing chart. there are maximum of extra sub-genres of jazz that folk would desire to take heed to, no longer in basic terms swing (besides the indisputable fact that I do savour a rapid swing chart sometimes). i think of the better element of jazz is the means to "bend" the song to in wonderful condition your guy or woman style. no longer in basic terms improvising, yet additionally making the written song sound completely unique.
