osmosis is the movement of water molecule down to it's concentration gradient, from high concentration gradient to the low concentration gradient through a semipermeable membrane without using energy.
it is also related the Tonicity. tonicity is the ability of the solution to change their shape by altering their internal water volume.
when the cell is immersed in the isitonic solution, it's does not shows any differences.this is because the intracellular pressure is equal to the extracellular pressure (the equilibrium is achieve).
when the cell is immersed in the hipotonic solution, the cell will plump or burst.this is because the presence of the difference concentration in intracellular and extracellular fluid, and water move through the osmosis process.(high concentration of water molecule in extracellular fluid, and low concentration of water molecule in intracellular fluid).
same as, if the cell is immersed in the hypertonic solution, the cell will shrink or crenated.this is due to the high concentration of water molecule in the intracellular fluid and low cocentration of water molecule in extracellular fluid, and the water molecule will move through the osmosis process.
