5 convicts certainly need a larger tank, especially when some of them are breeding. The most important thing will be the amount of bottom space (the footprint of the tank) and not the total volume. A 30 gallon tank would be the smallest tank for these guys to be at all comfortable and a 40 long or 55 would be even better.

Best of luck with the breeding and hope this helps

Put your 2 mating convicts in the larger tank (assuming it is at least 30 gallons), take the others back to the store, and get new fish for your 10 gallon tank. A 10 gallon is not a suitable home for convicts...not even one convict can fit in a tank that size. Additionally, if you have 5 convicts in a tank of any size you will likely start to see fights due to territory. You should really only keep the 2 that are mating.

Well, a 30 would be better for the pair, but unless the eggs were laid on something moveable, I think you'll be raising the first brood in your 10 gallon. Keep the parents with them.

You'll need to move the other fish out, or they will be harrassed or killed by the parents. You can take the other three back to the fish/pet store where you got them, or set them up (temporarily) in your new (larger) tank. The only risk here is if you have at least one male and female outside the two that already paired and you get a second brood started in the new tank!

You need to get a big fish tank because convicts get way to big for a 10 gallon. When you get the convicts in their new tank(55 gallons or more I hope) then you can get a smaller fish for the 10 gallon.

Or are you asking if you can put anything in the new tank with the convicts? Let me know what size the new tank is first and I'll let you know if there is anything that will work.

Your aquarium is overcrowded by more than 100% a 10 gallon can only house two convicts. I would leave the two that are mating in the 10 gal and buy a thirty for the other three ASAP.
Good luck!

well, if you want them to mate and have fry then yeah, the female may eat the fry or eggs sometimes so if it does happen maybe you should put the female in a separate tank.
