I was just looking thought the Grimmerie, reading the parts from the musical. I read the last chapter and got confused. It says:

Glinda: I've only seen a little green bottle like this one other time. And it was right here, in this room. You offered me a drink from it.
Wizard: Oh my lord -

Did she mean he was trying to get with her, like he did with Elphaba's mother?
Because she couldn't possably be the mother, she's her age!

Okay, answer time, because this is way over my head!

THANKS!
XD

In the musical, (which is very very different from the original Gregory Maguire book) G(a)linda is in no way related to Elphaba. Elphie's mother is the woman at the beginning of the musical who gives birth to her on stage- she is only referred to as "the witch's mother" in the playbill.

In both the musical and the book, one thing is for certain- the Wizard had an affair with Elphaba's mother, and he is her actual father- this is the reason Elphie "has such powers".

The green potion is something of a flask for the wizard. In his younger days, he may have used it to get women (like Elphie's mother) but there is no indication in the musical that this is his intent when he offers G(a)linda a drink.

For the record, I believe Elphie's mother's name in the book is Melena (or something like that).

G(a)linda is most definatley not the mother of Elphaba Thropp. If that were truem that he already would have "gotten with het" once already, as the Wizard is Elphaba's natural father. Her mother is not mentioned too many times in the musical, because she dies soon after she gives birth to her sister, Nessarose. More is explained in the book. We are not exactly sure what the Wizard's intentions were by offering G(a)linda, but this could be possible.

I think you have it right when you said "he was trying to get with her".

It's not really explained, as far as I know, not even in the book... but I think they are hinting at that.

It IS true that he is Elphie's father, but no, Glinda is not her mother.

Maybe the green liquide is ment to get people to do what you say.. like it brainwashes or hypnotises (sp?) you. That could explain Elphie's mother cheating. It does happen in the book too, but her father (well, who she belives is her father) knows about it.
