I can tell you my experience. I had the Mirena IUD inserted 7 months ago. I had a lot of spotting but haven't had anything like my periods were before getting it.

Spotting is one of the most common side effects of using an IUD. If you have an IUD that releases hormones it could cause you to skip periods.

Bleeding is very normal and missing periods can be too depending on what kind you have.
If you have a paragaurd you should not miss a period though as it does not have hormones so check with your doc or take a pregnancy test if this is your situation.
