Once you run the 18ga. 5 conductor wire you must match the colors to the letters. Red to R for power. White to W (this is your wire that will bring your furnace on. Y to yellow (this is to bring your air conditioner on). G to green to bring the fan on manually at the thermostat. C for blue which is your common wire if you have a electronic thermostat that requires 24 volts. Good Luck!

You will have to purchase enough thermostat wire to run from the location where you want the thermostat to the furnace. Make sure you allow for the thickness of the floor joists, & any obstacles that you will have to go around, then add five more feet. It is much better to have more than you need than to be short. If you have extra just loop it into a coil, & hang it out of the way near the furnace.

The wire must be fished through the wall between two studs as well as the floor at the bottom. If this is too difficult install the thermostat next to a door frame on an interior wall. That way you can keep the wire on the surface in the corner where the wall & the door frame meet. Be sure to use insulated wire staples made for the size wire you have. Next you have to drill a hole through the floor to get to the basement. Remove the section of quarter round so that the hole can be drilled next to the baseboard. Before reinstalling the quarter round cut a groove in it large enough for the wire so that it will not get pinched when the quarter round is reinstalled.

Important: Turn off the power to the furnace before you attach the wires to the furnace & thermostat.

After that it's just a matter of connecting the different colored wires to the matching colored coded terminals at the furnace & the thermostat.

Turn the power back on. This & the last two paragraphs should be found in the manual that came with the thermostat. The manual will give instructions on how to test that the thermostat is working properly.

If you look on the control box on the furnace there should be four connections. Two will Be labeled L1 and L2 these will be connected to the burner. The other two should be labeled T1 and T2 these are where you attach the leads from your thermostat. Good Luck.
