I've had very good luck at Target, Kohls, and yes, even Walmart. If you want something funky and different, try a consignment shop or flee market. But be mindful of what you want to use the lamp for because height will matter. A small light is fine on a nightstand or next to a bedroom chair if you're just using it to make your way around the room or find the telephone on the nightstand. But if you read in bed or in a chair in your bedroom, you'll need a taller light that will light your book.

Like these folks said, Wal Mart or Target. I know that Target has a mix and match system, you can customize the shade and the base. OR, if you're looking for something really unique, Pier One has some great looking lamps.

In addition to the places others have suggested, you might try Lowe's. They have a nice selection of lamps and shades, and I think their prices are good.
