I was playing football today and my finger got hit. I thought it was just jammed but then it start shooting pain. I had my dad pull it out put it didnt make it feel better. Now it is bruising in the middle part that bends and it is swollen but I can still bend it but not all the way into a fist. It also hurts really bad to touch it or when something touches it. What should I do? I have football tryouts tommorrow and I dont know if I should just tape them and try or not risk hurting it more? Please help!

You might have a fracture so certainly you should have an x-ray to determine this. It probably wouldn't be too good to do football things tomorrow..

This same exact thing happened to me while playing football not long ago. My finger got really swollen and I couldn't move it and it was completely black and blue from the tip to the bottom. I iced it a couple times and didn't see a doctor or anything. I just let it be. I kept playing football and I didn't even tape it or anything. It took about 2 weeks to heal. I'm pretty sure it was a fracture. You can tape it if you want and I think you should still play. But that's just my opinion..coming from the crzay girl who plays soccer with a sprained ankle, patella syndrome, tendonitis, shin splints, and scoliosis. lol. Well anyway, Good luck!!!

Your finger is not broken. You would not be able to close it even partially if it was broken. I suffered a similar injury recently in a ski accident. Simply ice it, take a painkiller/anti-inflammatory, and take it easy. Trying out for football is unwise, but possible. If you hit your finger trying out, there is a much better chance for serious injury. perhaps try to try out on something not directly putting your fingers in jeopardy. Also, you may consider rescheduling. If you are a good enough player, and can demonstarte it basically w/out harming yourself, go for it.
