It is not listed under sports in yahoo answers or in the olympics.
I am not asking an opinion.
I am asking if you can really tell me why Golf, Baseball, Ice Hockey, Soccer etc are "sports" and it is not.

How about Figure Skateing...skiing
The one guy..... yah sure some things are "activities" or games but that still does not explain its exclusion from YA or the Olympics
And the other, what emo girl skates? and the Xgames are very"watched"
I swear YA is thinning to 80% idiots, getting not worth checking or asking..

Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Used by itself, sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors.
Skateboarding is a new sport compared to Golf and baseball. Both which are not Olympic sports. To get skateboarding into the Olympics you would have to drop a sport. Which one? More people play golf, ski, and play soccer than skateboard. The popularity is not world wide.

Well, you see, its like this. It is a sport, because the almighty altar of Google defined it as: "An active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition". Skateboarding requires both physical exertion and competition.
Now, the reason that it isn't in say, the Olympics, and long jump is, is because of age. Give skateboarding 50 years or so, and it will be. Professional skateboarders simply wouldn't dress up in an olympic uniform (skin-tight sweat suit) if you paid them. To keep the Olympic image as it is, skateboarders would have to dress "smarter".
Now keep in mind that I have nothing against skatebarding, but it won't be considered a sport by everyone for a while. Additionally, it started off as a "punks" form of activity. Whereas golf started as a "gentlemans" sport. Hope that rant helps you, lol.

One of the great debates.
Here is what a sport is to me. Competition in an athletic event where the object is to outscore the other person/team. Each person/team has the power to physically stop the other person from scoring. That is a sport. It takes physical athleticism to out score and out wit your opponent while they are physically trying to stop you from doing that.
Golf is not a sport. It is very hard, fun, challengin, but not a sport. It is an activity. Same as skateboarding. Baseball, Ice Hockey, Football, Soccer are all sports.

Because people watch those sports you just listed. You answered your own question. I don't mind skateboarding, but why would Yahoo or the Olympics put something on that no one cares about?
