The great Roman Empire fell. What will keep the U.S. from suffering the same fate?

We are exhibiting all of the same types of events that precluded the fall of the Roman Empire. There is no real way of knowing what will happen to our nation. We need strong-minded individuals in office: those with a backbone. Get rid of PC politics and do what has to be done to save our country from the same fate. One person's opinion.

Well, when you consider the time differential that is a pretty strange comparison. However, I don't believe the US will fall. This country has a mighty backbone that comes from a combination of their love for their country and a strong military to back it up.

This war is a test of will and mighty force and yes, soldiers are dying, but lets underscore their bravery at the same time as well as their belief in what they are doing is right.

We will not fall, we will not fail if withdrawal is done properly. I have family over there that believe what we are doing is the right thing. They tell me ALL the good never makes the news, only the negative things...and they said the news media and the citizens here who are in opposition to the war and non-supportive of our government, have a death wish for them. To hear soldiers say something like that is heartbreaking. That tells me that every time a soldier hears what the people back here are saying, and the omissions from the media regarding how much the Iraqi people appreciate their presence, it hurts the way they look to the enemy, as being weak, when they are strong.

According to my family there and according to me, the U.S. will not fall only because they will not let it. And if you condemn someone who is trying to save many an ungrateful person here, then what is left for them to come home to.

Every great empire has fallen, its only a matter of time before ours does. Nothing will keep us from suffering the same fate. And if anybody wants to call me a defeatist, go right ahead, history proves otherwise.

The US will probably be more agile then the Roman Empire was. It won't necessarily fall, but it will probably transform & transfigure and become something that looks a bit different.

"You have a Republic--if you can keep it"
--Benjamin Franklin to a citizen on the occasion fo the drafting of the Constitution.

The people of this country can keep it strong and free. Or not--it is our choic--and our responsibility. Ben also point ed out that those who are willing to trade freedom for security deserve neither. History shows they get what they deserve.

Don't kid yourself. All empires fall, simple as that.

Such arrogance shown by some American's seeing themselves as infallible is the one major step towards oblivion.
