First of all...DO NOT REMOVE THE KEYBOARD UNLESS you have the computer shut off and no one is going to turn it on! The keyboard acts as part of the Operating System...this is why you can't start your computer without it! You can damage physical components by turning your computer on without a keyboard or some device attached. If it is a USB keyboard, it is safe to unplug and plug in.
As for stopping your child from using it, you can either set up accounts on your computer with passwords, or another way (usually for more advanced users) you can set a password for when you boot your computer up. I won't explain how to do this, because if you loose the password, you could be in a bit of trouble! Depending on your OS you might be able to set login time restrictions for an account set up for your child (again, I won't explain)...also, what my mother did with me a while back was take the power cord out of the computer tower...luckily I had spares, and also my monitors used the same cords (so I just disabled one and used that cord)

If you are running windows, go to START, Control Panel, Accounts. Give all accounts a password.
Then when someone wants to use the computer, they must give the password.
Better still, its your child! You are the parent!
You should be raising your child to obey you at all times! Your child does not do anymore than YOU allow it to do!
I do not believe in Parent controls for TV or any other type of controls other than my telling my child what it can or cannot do and that's the end of that. No ugly faces, slamming the door or fat mouth. Too, spoken one time is enough!
But then, so many let their children do and say what ever they want to, too include being disrespectful! Your child is your report card for parenting! If your child does not listen to you, you get a F for parenting.
There are no excuses! Either you are the parent, doing the raising or the child is acting like the parent and you are being raised according to its ways and wishes.

Key board is harmless to remove. Thats acutally a really good way of doing it. If you don't want him/her to use the internet unplug the router cable. This won't hurt anything (this is only true if you have a wirless keyboard.) This one won't work for ever because your kid will find out how to put the plug back in.
trust me i am a kid (teen) and know that without those i cant go on the computer. Good luck

Sure, you can take the keyboard, but the kid can always get another one somewhere.
Best thing is to create an account for one user with a password. Then when he turns it on, he will have to enter a password, and if he doesn't know it, no using the computer.
Go to My Computer, User Accounts, and create a password for the account that loads when Windows starts....

You can remove the keyboard, make sure the pc is off before you remove it. Or just set a password.

come on, winnie...who's the adult in charge. use your thinking cap. of cours it's ok to remove the keyboard. but you don't necessarily need the keyboard to use the computer. mouse.. how about just taking the main plug to the computer to work with you. stick it in your purse. no connection to modom, no use computer. have a great day. good luck. eileen

I would get parental control software. So when you turn the computer on, it will automatically ask for the password in order for them to get on the computer. My mom used to do it to us about 6 years ago.

Well, what I do is simply add a password to my account whether its XP or whatever, you can add a password. just go to the start menu
go to the control panel
Go to user accounts
and choose yours
then set a password
Make it something that is quite difficult to find out.

do you want your kid off the computer? or off the internet? if the computer, just unplug your monitor cable and take it with you - a lot easier to carry around than a keyboard lol. if you want to restrict internet access, the others here have given you sound advice.
